Sewing Success so Far

Hello Monday! How was everyone's weekend? I'm one of those rare people who actually likes Monday's. I work all weekend so today is my "weekend".

In between working, I decided to give sewing another go. I know I know….I just can't stop thinking about it. I'm determined to sew something that doesn't need to be thrown in the dumpster right away. It also didn't help that my mother was up here for a visit and she wanted me to take her to the $1.99 fabric store. Yes, I said that right!  Ever single fabric in the entire store is $1.99/yard.  I wasn't intending to buy anything but I was consumed by the gorgeous fabrics (and price) that I caved and bought some.

I figured maybe my problem with sewing was the fact that I only have ugly fabric (hand me downs from the 70's and 80's) and I wasn't inspired enough….

Who am I kidding, it's not that…it's the fact I can't seem to follow directions. I'm a creative person wanting to change everything to make it my own. Unfortunately, when it comes to sewing,  I don't have the skills necessary for me to run wild, so the end result always comes out less than stellar.

I found a purse on Pinterest that I've been wanting to make, so I decided now that I had pretty fabric I'd suck it up and make it the way it's supposed to be made. Then after  I figure everything out I can go wild  and use my own creative vision. Here's the blog you can find the tutorial.

I'm not finished with it yet but this is what I have done so far. The only direction I changed was the size. It was too big for my liking, so I shrunk it by a few inches.  Other than a few minor issues with my sewing machine and a few wonky stitches everything went smoothly. I have to say, this is probably the first thing I've sewn that I don't have to toss in the trash! I guess that's what happens when I follow directions….Maybe I'll make a matching wallet.
