Scrapbook Inspiration Organization

Yesterday I went Pin crazy! I think I pinned about 50 layouts. Just kidding, well, maybe not. I'll have to go count. Since the discovery of Pinterest I've found more inspiration than I ever could have imagined. I'm a visual person so finding out Pinterest has been a blessing…or a curse, lol because sometimes I spend more time than I should just browsing. Housework doesn't really need to get done….right? LOL. I don't know what I ever did before it.

Oh wait, yes I do. Let me show you. Before Pinterest I searched for all my scrapbook inspiration by Google and Flickr. There was no other way, at least that I knew of. It was getting to the point where my favorites list was so long, that I couldn't find anything. Like I said earlier, I'm a visual person so when I scrapbook I like to have the inspiration right there in front of me to use as a springboard for my ideas. Since my scrapbook stuff was nowhere near my computer (and I didn't have a laptop) I needed to come up with a solution:

All the layouts, and techniques I found inspiring I put onto index cards.

First I opened a blank 8.5 x 11 sheet in photo shop elements.  Back on the internet I right clicked on the photo and copied and pasted it into the document. *I don't know how people feel about this, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that has done this. I would in no way ever copy a layout or design, etc in it's entirety and claim it as my own. If  a layout I created happened to look eerily similar I would in no way post it online without knowing source. I never submitted to publications or blogged or anything and majority of my layouts are mostly seen by family so the source at the time was no big deal to me.* Just thought I'd add that in there. *Smile* I try to be cautious…

Typo! Should be *I* don't get technical! Oopps. Just ignore.

Then I resize my layers. I can usually fit 12 layouts to a page. Once the page is filled up I print it then cut each layout out and glue it to an index card and file it away.  I have two boxes. One box for layouts and one box for techniques.

When I first started, I had everything organized by number of photos on layouts but I found that that didn't work for me so I just have them all randomly in the box.

I'm actually thinking about doing this with the layouts I've pinned (I would write the source on the index card) because I still find myself pulling out the index cards from time to time and I still don't have a laptop (I think even if I did, I'd still like it physically in front of me, that's why I love the index cards.) and my scrapbook stuff is still nowhere near my computer. If I did that though, I would need at least 600 more index cards, and a whole lotta ink!

  1. This is such a great idea! There's so much inspiration out there and it's hard to keep track of.

Don't be shy! Stop by and say hello!
